Favourites set to strike in Reggae 6

IT was a tale of two Reggae 6s at the weekend, a hefty Labour Day mandatory payout of $486,325 and Saturday's 'box-food' return of $1,223 on six winning favourites.

SIX AVENUE struck at 25-1 and 5-1 chance SIR WONG DON, touted as a banker in this column, closed Friday's mandatory payout, ditching bets along the way.

However, favourites had a field day on Saturday, which could appear to be deja vu this weekend, especially the first two events.

GOLDEN LAWYER should use back-class to put away non-winners of two races at six furlongs in the Reggae-6 opener, having kept and beaten way better company.

SONNY T AND CHIPPY might have changed barns but still appeared nippy last out, chasing DIVINE FORCE in a six-furlong split of 1:12.0 at nine furlongs. Should SONNY T AND CHIPPY regress third run off the barn change, look no further than BERN NOTICE, who had chased him home at seven furlongs on March 29.

CHERRY BLOSSOM appears speediest in the third for four-year-old maidens at five furlongs straight. However, ALKEBULAN can be carried as insurance.

Take no chances with the fourth at six furlongs. SMART TRICK and JUSTIN BIGTIME will be gunning the lead, pressed by SONIGRAM and KING'S CROWN, a collapsed pace could spark a cavalry charge led by MAIN MISTRESS and BATTLE ANGEL.

The fifth is also an event in which multiple selections should be carried, no fewer than six, to include HEIROFFIRE, STORM VALLEY, SIR GANGA JAMUNA, LAST DANCE, LITTLE GROVY THING and MUZZO.

Bank ALIVE in the sixth, Reyan Lewis rekindling the partnership with Jason DaCosta, which won him the 2023 jockeys' title.
